WAIIS on 3Cat’s «Tot es mou»: changing the way we share cars

Paulo Gómez, CEO of WAIIS, explained on 3Cat’s «Tot es mou» how technology can help overcome the barrier to sharing a journey with someone we do not know.

Technology as a catalyst for car sharing

A few years ago, staying in a stranger’s home or buying and selling items directly from other people through an app was not part of our everyday lives. Platforms such as Airbnb and Wallapop helped turn these possibilities into everyday habits. WAIIS wants to bring about a similar change in mobility and the way we share cars.

Paulo Gómez explained this during his appearance on «Tot es mou» on 3Cat. The challenge is to overcome the reluctance people still feel about sharing a car and make it easier for people travelling compatible routes to go together.

WAIIS automatically matches compatible journeys

The idea starts with a simple observation: some cars are on the road with empty seats, while some people need to reach the same destination. WAIIS automatically connects people making compatible journeys so they can share the route and its costs.

The experience aims to offer the simplicity and convenience associated with booking a taxi or private hire vehicle, although the model is different: the driver shares a journey they were already planning to make. Automatic matching, a fixed price and identity verification make it easier to arrange the trip and build trust.

WAIIS aims to make car sharing an everyday option rather than an exception, whether for commuting to work, going to university or travelling to any other destination.
