Waiis acquires WardUs to strengthen the safety of its car-sharing platform

Waiis is strengthening the safety of its car-sharing platform by acquiring WardUs, a company specialising in personal safety technology. The deal will bring new tracking, location-sharing and travel assistance tools to the platform.

Waiis compra WardUs

Waiis, a Spanish urban mobility startup founded in Barcelona in 2022, has acquired WardUs, a company specialising in safety and personal protection technology. The deal will bring WardUs’ developments into Waiis’ shared-mobility services, particularly its carpooling platform.

Waiis’ technology uses artificial intelligence to identify compatible routes for drivers and passengers, set the price and manage journeys. By integrating WardUs, the platform will add new features designed to improve safety during trips.

WardUs offers mobile-based solutions for location tracking, sharing a user’s location with trusted contacts and activating assistance protocols in certain situations. These tools will complement Waiis’ existing systems for identification, verification, journey tracking and detecting unusual behaviour.

Paulo Gómez, CEO of Waiis, says WardUs’ experience of using mobile phones as a personal safety tool while travelling is an important part of developing the safety model required for car sharing.

The acquisition is part of Waiis’ growth strategy. In August, the company bought Catalan platform SharetoGo for €250,000. Waiis ended 2025 with revenue of €2 million and expects to reach between €4.5 million and €5 million in 2026. It also has plans to expand internationally into France and Italy and expects to reach 100,000 active users by the end of the year.

Waiis is also developing a pilot project with the ATM to integrate car sharing with public transport in Catalonia and is working on adding shared taxis.
