Founded in 2022, WAIIS is a smart mobility platform that connects passengers and drivers, including private individuals and professional taxi and transport operators, to share everyday journeys and on-demand services. Its system combines artificial intelligence, proprietary algorithms and analysis of mobility habits to identify matches between users travelling on similar routes, at similar times and to similar destinations.
Barcelona will once again host concerts, cultural activities and the Pride march on 18 July, an event that will bring together thousands of attendees and require a major mobility operation, with public transport the main way to reach the city centre.
Taxis, private hire vehicles and smart shared mobility as alternatives
In response to disruption and changes to Rodalies services, WAIIS CEO and co-founder Paulo Gómez believes shared mobility could play a more prominent role. The platform connects people who regularly travel the same route and lets them manage transport cost payments digitally.
According to Gómez, the model operates on a not-for-profit basis, with the price intended as a way to share costs and avoid unfair competition with other operators in the sector.
Regional presence and operational development
WAIIS is based in Manresa and operates mainly in Barcelona and Madrid and their metropolitan areas. The company aims to build a critical mass of users in areas with many regular journeys, making it easier to match people travelling along the same routes.
The platform brings together private drivers and professional services and is designed to complement existing public and private transport systems, making use of vehicles already on the road to increase occupancy and reduce the impact of individual journeys.
